The Current Climate Of The Woodpecker Finch
The Woodpecker Finch lives in the Galapagos. This is a place that is very close to the equator and as a result is very hot and humid. Here are the averages for the current monthly temperatures (high and lows).
(highs) January: 86 degrees, February:86 degrees, March:88 degrees, April:86 degrees, May:82 degrees, June:78 degrees, July:76 degrees, August:74 degrees, September:76 degrees, October:77 degrees, November:78 degrees, and December:80 degrees
(lows) January: 70 degrees, February: 74 degrees, March:74 degrees, April: 74 degrees, May: 72 degrees, June 68 degrees, September 62 degrees, October 64degrees, November66 degrees, December 68 degrees

About The Woodpecker Finch
The woodpecker finch's structure is made to build a nest. As seen in the picture to the left, the bird is using it's beak as a tool. The woodpecker finch also uses it's beak to catch prey. The diet of a woodpecker finch includes insects and some spiders. The bird also has sharp talons to cling to branches when building it's nest. This bird is very small in size and has light brownish-grayish feathers.

The Future Of The Galapagos
In order to predict the future form of a species, we must find out the future of the animal's climate. We then will factor the information together and make an accurate prediction. We found that in the future, the temperature will rise, and rainfall will likely increase.

The Evolution of the Woodpecker Finch
Changes in behavior and diet
Our new species is called a carpenter finch. We predict that its diet will stay the same in the future. However, its nests will be larger to protect its baby chicks.

Physical changes in the bird
The carpenter finch will be larger in general. To be more specific, it will have larger eyes for better vision. Larger wings will make it easier to fight the wind. It also would help in flying longer distances. Larger eyes would be necessary to fit the body, and could provide improved vision. Its body and beak will be longer. It will have sharp talons for defense. Its feathers will be lighter and it will have less feathers, and would protect the bird from getting too hot as quickly.
