A new species: the webbed polar bear
separation
The separation process started when a piece of ice broke into two and drifted miles apart. The groups of polar bears separated and adapted. One of the groups was forced to travel to a near forest because of the ice melting. But, the other group could not find anywhere else to live, so was forced to stay on the slowly melting ice.
Adaptation
The adaptation process started as the two groups separated. As the ice started to melt, the polar bears were forced to spend time in the water. They developed larger and webbed feet so they could swim faster and more efficiently. They also got smoother and shorter so they could glide through the water easily.
division
Over time, the two groups became very different. They developed larger snouts to come to the surface to get air. Another characteristic they evolved was becoming smaller in size so that they could swim faster. And, they got better underwater vision to hunt their food source. The two groups became so different, they couldn't interbreed anymore.
