The two-toed sloth is a slow animal, only moving at 0.03825 miles per hour. They're herbivores and can hang on tree branches effortlessly. They're preyed on by eagles and other predatory birds, panthers, and ocelots. As well as other predatory cats.
One of the sloths' ancestors is the Megalonyx, an ancient ground sloth. They were ten feet tall and weighed about 800 pounds. They moved much faster than the sloths we know today.
We think that sloths may evolve to become more like their ancestor, the Megalonyx. They'll become much taller, faster, and heavier. We also think that sloths will become omnivores.
They'll have these adaptations for a few reasons. They'll be taller so they can catch their bird predators and look intimidating. They'll become faster to run away from ground dwelling predators if they need to. They'll become heavier to look more intimidating. Finally, they'll become omnivores so they have more food sources and they can eat their predators, making them prey.
