Penguins Now
Most penguins live in very cold areas. It is debated whether they are land or marine animals. They raise their young on land, and get food from the water. Their cold environment is starting to warm up because of global warming. Since they live on the ice, but in the water too, they might have to evolve to live in the water permanently.
How and Why Penguins Will Change
Since penguins already live almost 75% of their lives in the water, and stay safe because their black and white colors act as camouflage and keep them safe from most predators, they will be able to adapt and evolve to live their whole lives in the water. Penguins have wing bones, which are more like flippers for them, that allow them to swim. As the ice starts to melt more and more, the penguins will start to evolve so they can live in the water.
The Evolution of the Evolved Penguin
Penguins will move to colder areas, but eventually all their cold areas won't be so cold anymore. Overtime the penguins will start to adapt to live in the water. Their tails will grow longer for them to be able to swim better, and their beaks will grow bigger so they will be able to catch more fish, more easily. They will still use their feet, but only rarely, to walk on land. The new penguin will be called a pelafishin. The pelafishins' offspring will have the new evolved characteristics and traits as their parents, and there will be a new species.
