facts about the white rhino
By: Brianna
The white rhino is native to Africa. Today, you can find white rhino's in mostly southern Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Kenya, and Uganda. They mostly live in grassy plains with very little forests and rainfall. The average rainfall in southern Africa is 20 inches or less. This means that it is fairly dry there, which might cause rhino's to adapt if it gets too hot.
Because they don't have a pointy lip to help them break twigs or dig for roots, the white rhino eats basically just short grass and some leaves. Rhinos are considered grazers, because they will eat constantly throughout the day, rather than having set meals. White rhinos can go up to five days without drinking, because they get some moisture from the grass they eat.

The adaption process

Since white rhinos have enormous heads and squared lips they naturally graze grass for food. Since they are grazers, the white rhino lives in Africa's grassy plains. The white rhino travels in groups of dozens to keep safe from poachers. Female rhinos only reproduce every two to five years. Their single calf does not fend for itself till it is only three years old.
Since the climate in Africa is so warm the white rhino spends sometime of their day in the shade. The white rhino is a wallower they find mud holes and roll in them. They coat themselves in mud. The mud acts as a bug repellent and sunblock.
Rhinos have a great sense of hearing and even better sense of smell. They can track each other just by using their sense of smell. They use their horns to protect themselves from predators and poachers.
