Sloths are interesting creatures. Sloths are nocturnal, and keep to themselves until mating time. They sleep more than they don't, and grow algae on their fur. They are great swimmers, and have become very well adapted to their environment. Sloths are also the slowest creatures there are. So slow in fact, that they do not cover even half a football field in a day. Although this is good for not being seen by predators like eagles, this may be bad if they need to get away from something...
We, as a group, predict global warming will melt the icecaps and flood most of the earth. This massive amount of water will flood the sloths' homes, and force them to adapt to their new environment. The sloths will then be separated by how deep they are at the time of the flood. Sloths farther into the heartland will be separated from those closer to the water. (Separation)
Modern Sloth
The sloths farther into Brazil will be less affected by the change because the country won't completely flood. The sloths will need to be able to live in and out of the water. Their front legs will become smaller, and their back legs bigger.
Amphibious Sloth
The sloths nearer to the ocean will be more affected than the ones farther into Brazil. Their front legs will become fins, the back legs will become longer, the fingers will be webbed, the tail will become a fin, and they will have gills. The sloths' diet will change from twigs and leaves to shrimp and small fish.
